Duggar's grand slam pushes San Jose to victory

A recently slumping San Jose offense broke out Thursday against the sort-of rival Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Averaging three runs over their last 15 games, the squad cranked out 15 hits for 12 runs and a five-run victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers' Advanced-A affiliate.

Steven Duggar drove in four runs on one swing, clubbing his first home run of the season in grand-slam fashion. Leading off and playing field, Duggar went 1-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base, though he did strike out twice, which gives him a 33.3 K% in his first six games back from injury.

This number will assuredly go down, as Duggar had never posted greater than 21.5% for a strikeout rate in any period of time with one team.

Aramis Garcia crushed his team-leading 16th home run in a 2-for-5 game. At an ISO of .247, no player in the California League is higher except Dodgers' prospect D.J. Peters. Also having heavy impact on the offense was Jonah Arenado, who went 3-for-5 with a triple.

Heliot Ramos hit his third home run, which is his 11th extra-base hit in 13 games (59 plate appearances). Like Garcia, he is second in his league with a .377 ISO, though he trails a Brewers prospect — 20-year-old Keston Hiura, who was picked 12 spots before Ramos in this most recent draft. Ramos is also third in wRC+ and in OPS.

— Recently, good Melvin Adon has been showing up more frequently than bad Melvin Adon. He has four consecutive starts with a game score of 57 or higher, which have all totaled for a solid combined line of 22.2 IP, 18 H, 3 ER, 7 BB, 22 K with a 1.19 ERA and 1.10 WHIP.
